Where you arrive
These estimates assume a docked arrival at the Halifax Seaport passenger terminals at Piers 20 and 22. Other berths and tender calls also occur. If your ship uses another berth, tender or shuttle, confirm your landing point and allow separately for that transfer before using these routes.
Getting around
The waterfront suits a walking day. The Citadel sits uphill; a taxi can reduce the climb. Confirm local fares in Canadian dollars and agree on a return pickup when using a vehicle.
Make time for
Choose a boardwalk stroll, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic or a longer Citadel visit. These Halifax routes do not apply to Sydney or other Nova Scotia ports.

BEACH
Halifax waterfront boardwalk
Enjoy a waterfront stroll toward the central boardwalk, with places to pause and browse. This is a walking outing, not a swimming beach.
45–90 minutes to visit
Mostly gentle waterfront walking with boardwalk joints, crowds and wind exposure. Vendors and outdoor services vary by season. Purchases are extra.

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic
Spend time with Nova Scotia’s maritime history in the museum on Lower Water Street.
60–100 minutes to visit
Published adult admission is CAD$11 May–October and CAD$5.15 November–April. PortBow retains a US$12 editorial allowance, not a currency conversion. Museum hours are 9:30am–4:30pm, with Tuesdays until 8pm; Mondays are closed November 1–April 26. Admission is free on Tuesdays from 4pm to 8pm; only plan an evening visit if your ship schedule allows. Galleries have elevator access. CSS Acadia has a separate limited seasonal schedule. Check holidays and changes.

Halifax Citadel
Explore the hilltop fort with enough time for its history, exhibits and harbor views.
120–150 minutes to visit
Parks Canada lists adult daily admission at CAD$22; ages 17 and under enter free. PortBow uses a US$20 editorial allowance, not a live currency conversion or ticket quote. Programs and services vary by season. The approach is uphill and interior surfaces vary; check access and opening hours. The staffed season runs through November 5, 2026, daily 9am-5pm. From November 6, 2026 through May 6, 2027, interior rooms, exhibits and ramparts are closed. The parade square and accessible washrooms remain available weather permitting; winter hours are 9am-5pm weekdays and 9am-4pm weekends. Check the seasonal schedule before planning an indoor visit.
